2nd Europlanet Early Career (EPEC) Annual Week 2019 – Call for Applications
Europlanet is pleased to announce the second edition of its training school for early career scientists who work in the field of planetary/space science and engineering.

Venue: University of Lisbon, Portugal
Deadline for registration: 24th February, 2019
The school is organised by EPEC, the Europlanet Early Career (EPEC) network. One of the main objectives of EPEC is to form a strong network between young professionals by organising early-career-relevant events and by engaging in different projects amongst the different working groups (see website for more details on working groups). Furthermore, the EPEC community aims to bring a young voice into Europlanet society to shape the future of planetary and space sciences and engineering. More information on EPEC can be found here.
This year EPEC Annual Week focuses on these main themes:
Welcome Monday – allows participants to network and break the ice.
Career Tuesday – focuses on how to find a career beyond academia.
Money Wednesday – exposure to various funding opportunities, how to write proposals & manuscripts, how to give a talk.
Working Thursday – building leadership qualities by engaging with Chairs of working groups in EPEC Committee, how to involve everybody, how to tell your science story.
For-Tomorrow Friday – Allows participants to share feedback, suggestions, and plan for the future with EPEC Working Groups.
The training school is an opportunity for the EPEC community to better get to know each other, to brainstorm on how to further develop the network in terms of the activities of its working groups and to enhance the interaction with members of the Europlanet Executive Board, who will be invited to give talks throughout the week. The school brings together young scientists from all EU countries and provides a networking platform where science discussion and collaboration are stimulated via a series of group activities. Applicants must either be in their final year of an MSc course (or equivalent), be currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in the field of planetary/space science or have obtained their Ph.D. qualification not earlier than 2012.
Note that in order to apply to the training school you are NOT required to be a member of EPEC, although this is encouraged. If you fulfil the requirements to be a member and wish to become one, please send an email to epec.network@gmail.com, including “EPEC application” in the subject.
Europlanet will cover most of the expenses for attending the school. These include:
Travel reimbursement of up to 150€, subject to proof of purchase (if you would require a higher amount, please contact epec.annualweek@gmail.com explaining why)
Four nights in a 3* hotel close to the school venue (the participants will share an en-suite double room with another person of the same sex);
Social event and dinner on Wednesday afternoon – see schedule for more details.
