EPEC Diversity Working Group
The purpose of Early Career Diversity Working Group is to build diverse working environment for the entire young and early career researcher community.
We aim to address the diversity related issues and create awareness within scientific community by conducting lectures and activates at EPEC annual week, EPSC and other international conferences.
Through this platform our purpose is to promote equal and prejudice free opportunities within scientific field.
The EPEC Diversity Working Group is made up of young researchers and scientists who come from diverse environments and cultures. However, we all have one thing in common: we all grew up hearing about how humankind landed on the Moon and this has helped motivate us to pursue a full time career in the field of planetary science. These stories have not only inspired millions of people from the generations that have followed, but also taught us what a diverse team of scientists can achieve by working towards one goal.
2019 has been a very special year for planetary sciences as we marked not only 50 years since the Apollo 11 Moon landing but the award of the Nobel Prize for Physics to Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz for the first discovery of an exoplanet orbiting sun-like star.
To celebrate, we launched a video series, ‘Motivational Journeys’. In this series, we have interviewed experienced scientists from various backgrounds and asked them to share personal stories about their early days, their motivation and how they got through tough times successfully.
We hope that after hearing about their journeys, young scientists and researchers in our community will feel motivated to push the boundaries themselves.
We are constantly looking for volunteers to work with us on organising events and working at various conferences and meetings addressing Diversity and Inclusivity. We not only aim to build the huge network of early career network irrespective of their nation and gender, we also aim at inculcating the leadership qualities and more free-spirit approach towards various opportunities that come to them.
