Manifesto – Didier Moreau

Position: Treasurer, Europlanet Society

After a PhD in Planetary Sciences  started at LASP at the University of Colorado in Boulder USA as assistant of Dr Larry Esposito, I was appointed in January 1990 by the Belgian Science Policy Minister to join the Belgian Space Pole planetary research team to support the preparation of SPICAM/Mars96/Mars Express experiment and implement theoretical research on Martian Atmosphere at IASB/BIRA.

In January 2001, I was assigned by the IASB/BIRA General Director as Coordinator/Manager of the Belgian Operations Centre and was responsible for the organisation  of the ESA OdISSea Mission. While I was in that position, we operated almost 60 space experiments and missions for ESA (PROMISS (2-3-4) missions, PCDF FRC, SOLAR FRC, ASIM FRC, FSL FRC) and other space agencies (CNES/PICARD CMSP, NASA/SOLCON, NASA/METERON).

After this, I was seconded from the Belgian Space Policy office as programme/project controller in the ESA Science Directorate at the Prodex Office, supporting the Head of Office in implementing the new Office DMS and contributing to the maintenance, design, development and validation plans of Selected Projects (https://www.didier-moreau.com/).

Today, my main duties are to monitor the National and European funding sources (BELSPO, ESA, EU and EUMETSAT) in line with my institute’s activities.

The position of Treasurer will allow me to stay connected to the field of planetology and to make available to this structure all the skills in budget management acquired during my career. I also hope, through this position, to bring my knowledge in the world of planetary exploration
