ERIM 2023 – About the Meeting
The Europlanet Research Infrastructure Meeting (ERIM) 2023 is a new kind of meeting to support European planetary science and associated communities. The format of ERIM 2023 is a series of interactive workshops related to the activities of the Europlanet 2024 RI project, research infrastructures in general, and the Europlanet Society. The meeting will be co-hosted with EPEC Annual Week 2023, the training school for the Europlanet Early Career Network.
ERIM 2023 will bring together a range of planetary science and community workshops, to develop synergies between different groups and increase opportunities for collaboration.
How Will it Work?
Workshops will be organised under a series of programme tracks. You can dip in and out of programme tracks, workshops and even sessions during the week. The aim is to make new connections, brainstorm ideas and help us build a strong, thriving, sustainable community for planetary science in Europe. Will the meeting be hybrid?
Yes – ERIM 2023 will use the Whova platform to enable participants to join virtually, as well as on site. Many of the workshop sessions will take place in Comenius University facilities, which have just been refurbished to include full live-streaming equipment. Details of how to access the Whova platform will be emailed to registered participants before the meeting starts.
Do I have to be a member of the Europlanet Society to participate in ERIM 2023?
No, you don’t have to be a member. We are looking for new people to engage with the Society, so everyone is welcome. However, we will be offering free accommodation and travel grants to a limited number (~150) of participants. If we are over-subscribed in requests for support, priority will be given to Europlanet Society members.
Do I have to be a planetary scientist?
While the overall programme is designed to support the planetary community, several of the workshops may be of interest to a wider audience. In particular, the workshop on Distributed Research Infrastructures will tackle common challenges for research infrastructures that support many different fields of research. Discussions on outreach, diversity, inclusion, industry and policy may also be of interest to professionals working in fields related to science and innovation, both within in academia and in other sectors (education, industry, policy etc).
Why is Europlanet organising this meeting?
In 2023, Europlanet’s main annual meeting will be held jointly with the American Astronomical Society’s Division for Planetary Sciences (DPS) in San Antonio, Texas, USA from 1-6 October. However, in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Europlanet Research Infrastructure and Society management teams felt that it was vital that the European planetary community had additional opportunities to meet, network and plan for the future of Europlanet during 2023, as well as holding their key business meetings (the Europlanet General Assembly and the Europlanet 2024 RI Council Meeting). ERIM clusters several workshops and events that were already planned for 2023, including EPEC Annual Week, at a single time and venue to promote cross-collaboration, foster synergies and develop roadmaps.
Official language
The official language of ERIM 2023 is English. Simultaneous interpretation will not be provided.
Insurance
The organisers cannot accept liability for personal accident, loss or damage to private property, which may be incurred as a result of participation in ERIM 2023. Participants are, therefore, advised to arrange appropriate insurance coverage. This should extend not only to travel but also to cancellation costs.
Covid-19 Regulations
All participants at ERIM 2023 will be asked to wear FFP2 facial masks at the conference centre and other facilities used for the meeting. This regulation will help to make a safe environment for all participants at the in-person meeting.
Following the current regulations in Slovakia, no vaccination/recovery certificate/recent PCR test is required to either enter the country or the conference venues. However, please note that this could change before or even during the meeting. This page will be kept up to date as much as possible, however, we can provide no guarantee of accuracy. Covid-19 tests can be bought in the pharmacies and everyone can do a self-test. If you get Covid-19 during your stay in Bratislava, it is recommended to always wear a mask, and to not go to bars, restaurants, shopping malls, etc. If you feel sick, but not so much that emergency care is needed, stay at the hotel until a Covid-19 test is negative. If you tested positive for Covid-19, we kindly ask you to fill out the anonymous Covid-19 tracing form so that other participants can be notified.
